Enhance the value of your mine or quarry at the end of its useful life with a tailor-made photovoltaic installation.
Add value to your land by installing a solar power plant to produce renewable energy!

A photovoltaic power plant on your former mine or quarry
Générale du Solaire buys or leases quarries, mining sites or slag heaps for a minimum of 40 years at the end of their useful life, in order to install ground-mounted or floating solar power plants and produce green electricity.
The Group has already worked with quarries and mining groups on all types of sites: former lime, stone, zinc and baryte quarries, coal mines, slag heaps, fluorite ore processing sites, sand pits, gravel pits, backfilled sites, etc. Do you own a site in the extractive industries? Whatever your activity, contact us to develop a photovoltaic power plant on your site at the end of its useful life.
Get in touch before your quarry comes to an end!
Add value to your unexploited land or degraded site: polluted land, brownfield sites, old quarries, old mine, old landfill site, road or rail aerodrome abandonment, ICPE site, water body, SEVESO or PPRT site, etc.

Frequently asked questions
What is the advantage of installing a solar power plant on a former mine or quarry?
Installing a photovoltaic power plant on your former mine or quarry will enable you to enhance the value of your site at the end of its life. This will enable you to implement a CSR policy, decarbonize your activity, participate in the energy transition, secure your electricity supplies and benefit from income from the rental or sale of all or part of your site.
What are the advantages of installing photovoltaic panels on abandoned land?
There are many advantages to installing solar panels on derelict land or on sites that have reached the end of their useful life:
- enhancing the value of derelict land
- greater local acceptability on land that is at the heart of the government’s target for solar power plants;
- contributing to the energy transition thanks to the green energy produced by the photovoltaic plant.
How much does it cost to convert a mine or quarry into a solar power plant?
Générale du Solaire covers all the costs of the power plant: financing, construction, operation and maintenance of the site, and pays rent to the owner in return for the use of the site.
Is it possible to install a photovoltaic power plant on a mine that is still active or only partially exploited?
It is entirely possible to install a photovoltaic power plant on a quarry or site that is still partially in operation. As and when the site is no longer in operation, the solar power plant can be extended. However, it is necessary to have a minimum unused surface area to start with. In all cases, it is a good idea, wherever possible, to restore the site to a condition compatible with solar power before the end of operations.
